WHY PTO STILL MATTERS IN JUNIOR HIGH

It’s no secret that parent involvement tends to diminish in junior high. Roles for parents aren’t as clear as in elementary school, not to mention many kids at this age would rather not spot mom and dad in the hallway (or so they lead you to believe!).

It’s true that junior high is different than elementary school – don’t worry, we’re still needed, just in a different way! Joining PTO is a great way to connect & learn about our evolving-role as parents. This is one of the most critical times to be involved in your child’s education and to know what’s happening socially.

You’ll also find yourself relying more on your child for information than the straightforward, in-your-face type of information we’re used to in elementary (say goodbye to Wednesday folders!). PTO is a great resource to clarify and gleam more information from other parents and administrators! It’s a transition for both our children and us - our PTO community is here to help you navigate!

PTO is also a resource we have, as parents, to partner with our administration and fund specific enhancements and offerings that make sense for our students and staff.  Of course want the best learning environments possible – whether it be virtual or face to face!

And, if you still need another reason to join PTO, studies show the more involved parent organizations are in schools at all levels, the more successful our students are!
